Personal vs. University Business International Travel
Due to the current pandemic, UT Austin considers every country a restricted region and requires approval from the International Oversight Committee (IOC) before departure on university business.
University Business
Traveling on university business to a UT restricted region is prohibited without prior approval from the IOC. Obtain approval by completing the Restricted Regions request form and submit it to Global Risk and Safety. The Restricted Regions Review Team will review the request for approval.
Personal Travel
Travel, such as going on vacation or visiting family and friends, does not require approval. However, if your trip involves any university business, you must go through the restricted regions approval process.
Examples of university business include conducting research, attending a conference, studying abroad or carrying out teaching/graduate assistant duties remotely while abroad. Taking virtual classes solely while abroad does not require approval.
Travel to Home Country
If you are traveling to your home country, approval is still required unless your travel is strictly personal.
